There are a number of things I miss about the Pacific Northwest. I miss sitting on the sea shore watching the University of Washington rowing team scream by. I miss the fact that on any given day I can run down to the local speakeasy and watch some of the biggest names in music perform in a venue as big as my living room. And I miss our periodicals. The Stranger and Seattle Weekly were must reads for any and all hipsters on the Seattle scene. I can't say that I am a true hipster, but my heart bleeds indie rock, and my veins pump flannel.

Upon moving to the gulf coast I notice that there wasn't a magazine that I connected with. I realize that I am a picky punk, but I wanted something with the rawness of The Stranger when I was looking for a show to hit, and I also wanted something with some real design chops that clued me in to the movers and shakers in this community.

PcityLive.com has helped my jones for an indie magazine, but until yesterday I was at a loss for a true class rag. Yesterday, at the entrance to our design studio was a stack of the most beautiful magazines I had seen curbside in a really long time.

VIE (French for Life) was just sitting there, in beautiful black and white with a JPG like title and fantastic layout and design. I figured it was another Rowland Publishing gig because of the mat finish until I dug further.

Produced and published by Cornerstone Marketing & Advertising, INC in Grayton Beach, VIE is 114 pages of portfolio beauty. It's like holding Destin in the palm of your hand. It's a myraid of fashion, who's who, travel, and culture. It's a must read and yes, it is really that good.

VIE will be produced twice a year and is, no doubt, the coup de grace of Cornerstone's portfolio. We have no affiliation with Cornerstone or VIE, we are not getting a penny for this story, but we sincerely hope you will read it as we are certain you will quickly become a fan.

As a matter of fact we were so inspired by it we did an impromptu photo shoot to welcome them to the neighborhood.

I have had opinions for as long as I can remember. At the age of six I felt like I should be able to eat Twix bars for every meal, everyday, my mother had a different opinion. When I got a bit older I was of the opinion that Sarah Messer should date me, she realized that she was awesome and popular and wouldn't give me the time of day. All this to say, I have had differing opinions from some of my amigo's.

In the past those of us with differing opinions were relegated to spray painting walls or writing unread letters to editors to get our voice heard. Thankfully those days are over! The solution? Blogging (short for web logging) or jotting down ideas, opinions, thoughts, gibberish or just plain ranting. The fantastic thing about blogging is, anyone can do it. If you have access to the Internet you are in like flynn, and if you have a library card then you have access to the world wide web.

Blogging turns every individual, regardless of education, age, race, creed, or sex into a publisher. I have a friend who blogs out of Atlanta (RagamuffinSoul.com) about his creative job at a church and thousands of people flock to his site per day. That's right I said thousands. Many companies would pay a pretty penny to have that many eyeballs grace the pages of their websites. I have another friend who writes about being a mom and the challenges that come with that and she has advertisers knocking down her door. Blogging is here, and it is here to stay.

Major market newspapers have heard the blogaphone and they have answered. Some have added top notch blogger's to their payroll while others have changed their entire online format to a more blog friendly look and feel.

At the end of the day blogging is a way for families to stay in touch and up to date from across the planet, teenagers to gripe about their teachers, and consumers to produce honest, intelligent reviews of product.

Blogging Applications:

Wordpress (free)

Typepad

Vox

Blogger

and of course PcityLive.com

Bogging is cathartic and rewarding and a bit egotistical but absolutely 100% freakin fantastic!

Somehow I find myself sitting on a puddle jumper next to the largest man on the plane. He is sweating profusely, and he seems to think that the armrest that seperates the two of us solely belongs to him. He has also disregarded the Geneva Convention proclamation that one man's leg should not rub against another mans leg for a prolonged period of time. I feel it appropriate to advise at this time that I am also not a slight man, however I do appreciate the unspoken rules of air travel, and I attempt to keep all body parts to myself at all times during a flight.

As we reached our cruising altitude Mr. Big saw this as his opportunity to relax and somehow he spilled even more into my ever decreasing space. I was beginning to feel claustraphobic, beginning to flip out really, so I turned on my iphone to watch a movie. It was that sole distraction that made my trip bearable and I thank the nerds in the Silicon valley for their tireless effort to give me miniature entertainment.

I finished the first movie and was sitting comfortably, content from the huge meal of pretzels and six ounces of coke I had just wolfed down when I realized my beautiful gem of mind distracting machinary was about to die a horrible death. I noticed, brace yourself, that my batteries were about to die!

It was at that moment that I remembered the Dynex ipod/iphone battery boost I had recently purchased that was tucked neatly in my carry on bag. I snagged it, popped two triple A batteries in and I was back to watching Jamie Kennedy's rap video 'Rollin with Saget'.

Thanks to the Dynex iPhone Battery Boost my flight was Freakin Fantastic!

commute1.jpgThere's an unmistakable whooshing sound that pummels my head in a syncopated rhythm that reminds me to stay alert lest my dome be crushed by the three thousand pound bullets whizzing by.

I ride because it makes me feel alive.

May is bike to work month and I spent day one grunting and sweating my way to the office. It's not everyday you see a two hundred thirty pound bald Polish man struggling just to stay upright on his rig. No, it's not everyday, but I am pretty sure it was amusing for the half a million (or so) people who passed by in their air-conditioned hoopties. I'm sure there was pointing and laughter but I didn't care because I was single handedly saving the planet.
